Salivary pellicle modification with polyphenol-rich teas and natural extracts to improve protection against dental erosion

چکیده

To investigate the modification of salivary pellicle with different polyphenol-rich teas and natural extracts for protection against dental erosion. We performed two experiments: one (Green tea, Black Peppermint Rosehip negative control [NC]) other (Grape seed, Grapefruit Cranberry, Propolis, NC), where NC was deionized water. A total 150 enamel specimens were used (n = 15/group). Both experiments followed same design, consisting 5 cycles of: formation (30 min, 37 °C), solutions 25 further (60 °C) erosive challenge (1 1% citric acid, pH 3.6). Relative surface microhardness (rSMH), relative reflection intensity (rSRI) amount calcium release (CaR) evaluated. Data analysed Kruskal-Wallis Wilcoxon rank sum tests Bonferroni correction (? 0.05). Regarding teas, Green showed best erosion, presenting higher rSMH lower CaR than NC. tea not to caused showing highest greatest loss SMH SRI. extracts, Grape seed presented protective effect, significantly CaR. Cranberry more demineralization; Propolis did differ from extract able modify improve its effect but Some some bio-products, such as More studies should be in order test viability their use active ingredients oral care products.

Effects of enamel abrasion, salivary pellicle, and measurement angle on the optical assessment of dental erosion.

The present study assessed the effects of abrasion, salivary proteins, and measurement angle on the quantification of early dental erosion by the analysis of reflection intensities from enamel. Enamel from 184 caries-free human molars was used for in vitro erosion in citric acid (pH 3.6). Abrasion of the eroded enamel resulted in a 6% to 14% increase in the specular reflection intensity compare...

Susceptibility to Dental Caries and the Salivary Proline-Rich Proteins

Early childhood caries affects 28% of children aged 2-6 in the US and is not decreasing. There is a well-recognized need to identify susceptible children at birth. Caries-free adults neutralize bacterial acids in dental biofilms better than adults with severe caries. Saliva contains acidic and basic proline-rich proteins (PRPs) which attach to oral streptococci. The PRPs are encoded within a sm...

Salivary and pellicle proteome: A datamining analysis

We aimed to comprehensively compare two compartmented oral proteomes, the salivary and the dental pellicle proteome. Systematic review and datamining was used to obtain the physico-chemical, structural, functional and interactional properties of 1,515 salivary and 60 identified pellicle proteins. Salivary and pellicle proteins did not differ significantly in their aliphatic index, hydrophaty, i...

Saliva and dental erosion

UNLABELLED Dental erosion is a multifactorial condition. The consideration of chemical, biological and behavioral factors is fundamental for its prevention and therapy. Among the biological factors, saliva is one of the most important parameters in the protection against erosive wear. OBJECTIVE This review discusses the role of salivary factors on the development of dental erosion. MATERIAL...

Protective effect of different tetrafluorides on erosion of pellicle-free and pellicle-covered enamel and dentine

The aim was to analyze the protective effects of titanium, zirconium and hafnium tetrafluorides on erosion of pellicle-free and pellicle-covered enamel and dentine in vitro. Eight groups of 20 specimens each of bovine enamel and bovine dentine were prepared. Half the specimens in each group were immersed in human saliva for 2 h for pellicle formation. Specimens were then left untreated (control...
